WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH BUBBLE WRAP?

Honestly, a fully bubble wrapped room… is quite a concept. For one, peace and quiet, for God’s sake. Additionally, how dope would a ton of bubbles everywhere look in a room- like you are a little fish bubbling about or a package on its way to its special destination.

What today might feel like museum-eque room decor was once a way to soundproof spaces.

Personally, all I think about when considering a bubble wrapped space is bouncing from wall to wall but after doing a little research, there is far more to the love story between walls and wrap of bubbles.

Let’s take it back to the year 1957. When imagining what the 50’s was like, one might think of the rise of Rock N’ Roll, sock hops and poodle skirts whereas here at Dizzy, we are reminiscing about the unintentional invention of Al Fielding and Marc Chavannes. When attempting to create a textured wallpaper, these two sealed two shower curtains together in such a way that air bubbles were captured. That’s a new one. {Discount code: CURTAIN} Unfortunately, the unique style and appearance of this wallpaper was not such a hit in the interior space but its origin story is not to be forgotten.

What then was marketed as insulation for greenhouses, turned into one of the most revolutionary packaging inventions.

Now known as Bubble Wrap®, IBM was introduced to the product, utilizing it as a packaging material for protecting their new line of computers and guess what…it worked! Never underestimate the power of repurposing materials and giving it new life and legacy. Who knows? It may be popping! Here at Dizzy, we also love to repurpose. Our panel leftovers can be used to add a touch of detail to cabinets, drawers and whatever other canvas’ in our homes that are yearning for some character.
